BILOXI, Miss. (June 27, 2009) – Popular Bobby Lashley took super heavyweight Bob “The Beast Sapp to the mat right off the opening bell and used his improved ground-and-pound game to win by first-round submission in the main event on the “Ultimate Chaos” pay-per-view event, presented by Prize Fight Promotions and Fight Force International, last night at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Mississippi.

“Going up against Bob,” Lashley said after the fight, “you always expect the big bulls. I had to take him down, cover and pound. The first thing is to win: ground-and-pound to wear the big man down. He has a big punch. I used my ground-and-pound and got out of there.”

“I got a good shot in the eye and was unable to see,” Sapp explained the ending. “He got me in the eye. No excuses, He got me down today and controlled it. Give it up to Bobby Lashley.”

In a devastating display of power striking, Dutch heavyweight Gilbert “The Hurricane” Yvel (36-13-3) registered his 31st knockout with five lethal rights on a fallen Pedro “The Rock” Rizzo (16-9-0) at 2:10 of the first round in the co-feature. “I want to move up to (fight) the champions because I want a belt,” Yvel explained his next move. “I’m learning the ground game. What I did tonight was be patient, relax, and kick-off.”

Veteran Javier “Showtime” Vazquez (13-2-0) took pro debuting Mark Kergosian (0-1-0), who was a late replacement for Din “Dinyero” Thomas, to school with a first-round submission by Guillotine choke only 59-seconds into the opening frame. “I want to thank Mark or I wouldn’t have had a chance to fight tonight,” featherweight Vazquez remarked. “I was looking forward to fighting Din. It’s unfortunate. I’m back! This is my weight class. Very few guys can touch me at 145. That was just a tip of the iceberg.”

Hot 21-year-old lightweight prospect Chris “The Polish” Horodecki (13-1-0) won by submission for the first time, using a rear naked choke to force William “The Bull” Sryyapai (12-5-0) into a tap-out in round one.

Waachim “Native Warrior” Spirit Wolf (6-4-0) unleashed a barrage of punches to stop a dazed Brett Cooper (9-5-0) at 1:04 of the opening round of their welterweight fight. “I head Brett Cooper signed to fight in 30 days,” Spirit Wolf noted. “It was all over the news. I said, if he didn’t take me serious, he’d be in trouble and that’s what happened.  He never should have looked past me. I’ve been fighting tough guys since I started. I’ve always told my management to get me the best fighters. I’ll fight anybody. I’ve gone through wars and it’s made me a more powerful, spiritual fighter.”

Affliction vice president Tom Atencio (2-0-0), 42, turned back the clock and ruined local favorite Randy Hedderick’s (0-0-1) pro debut in a spirited lightweight match. Atencio won the second-round TKO when Hedderick, 17 years Atencio’s junior, was unable to continue (broken nose) in the third. “Randy’s a tough kid and I thank him for the fight,” Atencio said. “Screw Dana White for what he said about you. Anybody who steps in the ring deserves a lot of respect. Win, lose or draw, at least you had the balls. He rocked me a couple of times and decked me.”

Mississippi lightweight Brandon Harder (2-0-0) used an arm triangle to submit John Harris (0-2-0) in round two.

James Orso (9-3-0) defeated Danny “The Assassin” Abbadi by decision for the second time in their welterweight rematch.

Northern Ireland welterweight Colin “The Gift” McKee (6-3-0) won by way of a series of strikes in the first round against tapping-out Lance Thompson (5-3-0).

Lashley calls fight against Sapp “Battle of the Giants” MMA PPV June 27in Biloxi, MS

bob-sapp-21

BILOXI, Miss – Fresh off his 24-second destruction of Mike Cook, former WWE superstar Bobby Lashley called his June 27th showdown against  Bob “The Best” Sapp in the “Ultimate Chaos” pay-per-view event headliner, live from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Mississippi, the “Battle of the Giants.”

Ultimate Chaos,” presented by Prize Fight Promotions and Fight Force International, in association with the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum, Treasure Bay Casino and Budweiser, is being produced and distributed by Gotham MMA and Integrated Sports at 9:00PM ET/6:00PM PT in the United States and Canada on cable and satellite Pay Per View via iNDemand, TVN, DirecTV, Bell TV, Shaw, Star Choice and Viewer’s Choice for a suggested retail price of only $29.95.

The 6-2, 255-pound Lashley, 3-time NAIA wrestling champion at Missouri Valley College, is an incredible physical specimen. Bobby joined the U.S. Army and was a 2-time Armed Forces Champion and 2002 Military Games Championship silver medalist. Two years ago, the chiseled Lashley became a WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) superstar, joining Donald Trump at Wrestlemania 23 in a bet against WWE president Vince McMahon. Lashley won the match and helped Trump shave McMahon’s head in the ring.

Bobby’s third pro MMA fight was a major hit last weekend as he displayed tremendous power submitting Cook, who had taunted the unbeaten Lashley by wearing a pro wrestling-type mask into their fight, with a near spine-snapping Guillotine choke. Bobby looked like a much more polished MMA fighter than he did in his previous three-round decision against Jason Guida.

“He tried to get in my head but I wasn’t going to let him,” Bobby explained. “He probably saw that the opponent in my previous fight had gotten a little in my head, but I learned from that experience and just shrugged it off this time. I trained hard and knew I was ready for that fight. My cardio was great and I worked on my boxing. I’ve reached a level of validation. When he put that mask on, I was only concerned with being validated to my opponent. The WWE thing will always be there, whether I have three or 300 MMA fights, but I’m glad that I have that WWE fanbase.”

Lashley fights a larger man for the first time in MMA action when he steps into the cage against an imposing 6-4, 350-pound Sapp (10-3-1), who played in the NFL for four years before becoming an iconic combat fighter in Japan, where he starred in PRIDE and K-1.

“Most heavyweights (in MMA) weigh 230-240 and that’s the size of guys I’ve fought,” Lashley said. “But I’m fighting a huge opponent in this coming fight. This guy must have weighed 370 at the press conference. Even if he gets down to 340, he’ll still outweighs me by around 85 pounds. Sapp’s really aggressive and I know he’s going to come out hard. He won’t be able to go through me, though. He’s strong but his weakness is in the gas tank, even though I know he’s training hard for this fight. It’s going to be a good fight.

“We liked this fight when it was first offered. When I fight there’s always been a ‘but’ after it. It was a good fight but …….fill in the blank. Well, I’m fighting a bigger guy who’s popular overseas. I don’t think this fight will go long. It certainly won’t be a long, drawn-out fight. There will be a lot of heavy blows, lots of banging – ‘Battle of the Giants!’ I’m training right now back home in Colorado. I like working in the altitude but I’ll probably make a brief trip to train (with American Top Team) in Florida where there are a lot of big guys at our fight club. I may have to stack three guys up (to simulate Sapp, Bobby jokingly said). I have some big guys here I’m training with. They not be quite as big as Sapp, but they’re big, very strong and have heavy hands like Bob.”

Controversial Dutch heavyweight Gilbert “The Hurricane” Yvel (35-13-3) takes on 3-time UFC title challenger Pedro “The Rock” Rizzo (16-8-0) in an intriguing co-feature. Former King Of The Cage and Gladiator Challenge champion Javier “Showtime” Vasquez (12-2-0) meets dangerous lightweight Din “Dinyero” Thomas (24-8-0), star of The Ultimate Fighter 4; Canadian lightweight sensation Chris “The Polish Hammer” Horodecki (12-1-0) faces 4-time World Muay Thai champion William “The Bull” Sriyapai (12-4-0).

Also fighting on the card are welterweights Brett Cooper (8-4-0) vs. Waachiim “Native Warrior” Spirit Wolf (5-4), Affliction vice president Tom Atencio (1-0) vs. pro debuting lightweight Randy Hedderick, middleweight James Orso (8-3-0) vs. Colby McMahan (3-1-0), The Ultimate Fighter 3 star Danny Abbadi (3-4-0) vs. veteran middleweight Lance Thomson (4-2-0); welterweight Eric Bradley (2-1-0), 2-time All-America wrestler and 2003 NCAA boxing champion at Penn State, vs. Belfast, Northern Ireland brawler Colin McKee (3-2-0). All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Tickets are priced at $25.00 (limited discount seating), $40.00 (general admission) and $55.00 (premium reserved seating) and sale at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum and all TicketMaster outlets.

BILOXI, Miss. “There is a huge MMA fan base down here on the coast and this card speaks for itself,” co-promoter Ricky Derouen (Chairman of the Board, Fight Force International) said. “I’m very proud to have this event in my hometown. That really means a lot to me. Just to give an idea of the hype surrounding this event, the tickets go on sale May 8th. We have 1,300 floor seats available and 1,100 of those are already gone. The tickets aren’t even for sale, yet, so that’s a good thing.”

I’m doing something Dana White won’t do and that’s fight. He talks like a fighter, so why doesn’t he fight? I’m stepping up to the plate and win, lose or draw I attempted it. I don’t ever think he would fight.”

Middleweights James Oros (3-2-0)and Colby McMahan (1-0-0) also square-off.

Former WWE pro wrestler Bobby Lashley has stated many times he wants to prove he belongs in MMA.  Lashley told” MMA Live” he is he is considering trying out for ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ season 10 too prove it.

“I think that would be great because what I’m trying to do right now is prove myself and on ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ you have to prove yourself,” Lashley said on “MMA Live” on ESPN. “I talked it over with my management and trainers and everything and they had mixed opinions on it. If I should go there or go out and do different fights. I’m open to anything. I’m open to suggestions. If that’s the route they want to send me, then I’m going to go.”

When UFC lightweight Kenny Florian asked Lashley if he would accept an offer to fight for the UFC, Lashley responded with a humble “no”.

“No,” Lashley said. “I would love to say yes because everybody wants to be there. The UFC is the pinnacle of the sport so of course I want to be there, but right now, no, I’m not going to. I’m not even going to consider it. And I don’t think the UFC is considering me either because there’s a building process. When I get to the UFC, I want to be a serious contender for the title.”

“The Ultimate Fighter 10″ tryouts will take place next Monday, April 6 at The Marriott Seattle Airport Hotel in Seattle, Washington.

In February Dana White was on the” Big O and Dukes Show” on 106.7 WJFK in Washington, DC, answering a number of questions. During the show  Dana White was asked who would be in the UFC first, Kurt Angel or Bobby Lashley?.  White replied, neither would be in the UFC first. It seems Dana White has change his tune regarding Bobby Lashley.

Fresh off his victory over Jason Guida at the “March Badness” MMA & boxing Pay-Per-View,  Bobby Lashley (2-0) was a guest on ProMMA Radio this week.  During the appearance.  Lashlely told host Larry Pepe that he has had talks with the UFC.

“I’ve had dialogue with (the UFC) over the past few days. They know where my mind frame is. I hold the UFC in high regard and I believe the UFC is a place where you have to be at a certain level before you get there”.

The former WWE champion plans on being a top contender and more experienced when steps into the octagon.

“I want to be a serious contender for a title before I go in there. When I get to the UFC, I want people to say ‘Bobby is good enough to go for the title.’ I would like to be holding a 5-0 or 6-0 record, somewhere around there before going into the UFC”.

Roy Jones, Jr. Breaks Up Lashly-Guida

At the final press conference in Pensacola yesterday, Bobby Lashley read some excerpts at the podium of what Jason Guida had been saying in the press.  At that time, Guida shot back with, “This is a real fight.  Not what you have been used to.  This is not fake - these are real punches.”

When it was time to do the “face-off” photo, the matter escalated to the point where Guida grabbed Lashley by the throat.  “Promoter” Roy Jones, Jr. had to get between them to break it up.

Jason Guida not concerned with taking Bobby Lashley fight on short notice.

Despite the fact that Jason Guida is replacing Ken Shamrock  with one week notice. Guida plans to nail former WWE star Bobby Lashley (1-0, 1 KO), 3-time NCAA champion (1996-98) and 4-time All-America wrestler. On the March 21st pro boxing/MMA pay-per-view event at the Pensacola Civic Center.

Guida (17-19-0, 2 NC, 4 KOs, 10 submissions), fighting out of the South Side of Chicago, is a union carpenter who has fought at anywhere between 185 and 235 pounds during his 5-½ year career.

“I’m always training and this has become my MO,” he explained. “I do a lot of short notice fights, where I’ve been most successful, and this fight fell into my lap. I’ve always made the best of it and I plan on doing the same Saturday night in Pensacola. I want to fight the top guys; Lashley may not be a top guy but he’s a top name, and beating him will put me on the map again.”

Guida may be giving away 5-inches and around 30 pounds to the Adonis-like built Lashley, but Jason has a significant advantage in MMA fighting experience, 39 pro fights and 78 rounds to Bobby’s single, one-round fight. In fact there’s a more than a slight similarity between Guida and another late replacement for Shamrock, Seth Petruzelli, who upset Internet sensation Kimbo Slice last October. “I definitely see my experience being a huge factor,” Guida remarked. “But Lashley has less experience than Kimbo and I have more than Seth had. I don’t know if Seth (he stopped Kimbo in the opening round) was set to go three rounds, but I’m ready to finish Lashley or outpoint him.  I was training for a fight that fell-out in February and I just kept training.

“Size doesn’t matter. I’ve had my best fights against big guys and put my hands on guys bigger than Bobby. I wrestled (UFC heavyweight champion) Brock Lesnar in junior college. I don’t think Lashley has the background or knows how to put his body into MMA as well as Lesnar. MMA is new to Bobby. I don’t have anything against him. Someday he could be good for MMA. I welcome him, after I beat him, to work at our club (Hellhouse) to learn how to fight. Lashley’s going to find out that this is MMA not WWE. He’s in for a rude awakening, which probably will be a good thing — he’ll be fighting a real MMA guy. I don’t wish him any ill harm, in fact, I wish him the best because beating him will look even better if he goes on to succeed in MMA. ”

PENSACOLA, Fla. (March 5, 2009) – When living legend Ken Shamrock battles Bobby Lashley in the main event of the mixed-martial-arts portion of the March 21st pro boxing/MMA hybrid pay-per-view event at the Pensacola Civic Center. it will be another first in a career full of firsts for Ken Shamrock.

“I’ve done a lot of firsts,” Shamrock commented. “I was the first heavyweight champ of MMA and first foreign champ in Japan. This is the first time two champions (Jones and Shamrock) in their individual sports, at this level, will be fighting on the same card – boxing and MMA. I think it’s the way of the future and it’s happening now. Lashley got things going in wrestling and then the WWE. Now he’s in MMA. He’s very good. I think he’s 270-pounds of muscle – quick, explosive and strong. The area he lacks, gound skills, he makes up for with his strength and ability to move on the ground. He can really move on his feet. This isn’t a fat guy laying on his back.”

Althoght Bobby Lashley is not as experienced as Shamrock,  Lashely plans on proveing to the world that he should be taking seriuosly in MMA .

“I am excited to be part of this card alongside Roy Jones, Jr. and Square Ring Promotions,” Lashley said. “I am looking forward to fighting an experienced opponent like Ken Shamrock and showing the fans that Bobby Lashley is a force to be reckoned with in the heavyweight division. I am going to come out from the opening bell and show Ken Shamrock and the rest of the world that Bobby Lashley is not someone you want to mess with.”

Former World Wrestling Entertainment star Bobby Lashley will make his mixed martial arts debut for the Mixed Fighting Alliance on Saturday, Dec. 13 at the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami.

”Actually, I was training in MMA before I went to WWE,” Lashley said in a phone interview. “I had wrestled [amateur] for 18 years, and I did a tremendous amount of things in the sport of amateur wrestling.’

Lashley, 32, won three national titles wrestling (1996-98) for Missouri Valley College. He later joined the United States Army, where he continued to wrestle and won a silver medal in the world games.

In November 2004, Lashley opted to take the big bucks WWE  was putting on the table for his services and put MMA on the shelf for pro wrestling.

”I was in a transition phase, and I’d have to say the money was a big deal,” Lashley said. “I was a professional wrestling fan when I was younger. So when I had the opportunity to go and try it and actually be a professional wrestler, of course I had to jump on it at the time. I didn’t know if that opportunity would ever come by again.”

Bobby Lashley faces Joshua Franklin for the Mixed Fighting Alliance on Saturday, Dec. 13 at the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami.

”This is it for me,” Lashley said. “I’m putting everything on the line. I’m putting a whole career on the line here. I’ve been training as hard as I can. So if you want to see a spectacular show and somebody out there fighting and going to be the future of this business, this is the show to see
